WALL OF FAME MISSION STATEMENT
Notre Dame has built its reputation on excellence, character, integrity, and good sportsmanship. Student athletes, coaches, teachers, administrators, and private citizens have all contributed to the overall success of Nike athletic programs. We hereby recognize and honor those who have brought distinction to Notre Dame through their leadership, participation and support. The Notre Dame Nike Wall of Fame has been created to recognize exemplary teams and individuals as a lasting tribute to those who have brought honor to themselves, their school, their teams and our/their communities. Our intent is to honor their success and excellence and to inspire present and future student/athletes.
GENERAL CRITERIA FOR NOMINEES
Must have attended/graduated/retired from Notre Dame High School at least 5 years prior to the time of nomination
Has demonstrated an extremely high level of achievement in his/her sport(s) and exhibited leadership, character and dedication in the classroom and the community
State Champions, Teams and Coaches qualify for automatic induction
All student/athletes selected as All-State by either The Des Moines Register or IDPA in an IHSAA/IHSGAU sanctioned sport qualify for automatic nomination. Each sport must be recognized by the Iowa High School Athletic governing bodies as an official state-sanctioned sport
Notre Dame student-athletes and coaches also include those who played/coached with a partner school in which Notre Dame has/had a sharing agreement
There is no limit on the number of times a nomination can be made by or for any individual, team, coach or staff member
Coaches and Staff nominees must be an inactive faculty/staff member or retired from Notre Dame
Nominees may also be inducted posthumously
NOMINATION PROCESS
The Notre Dame Nike Wall of Fame Selection Committee will be responsible for soliciting nominations from as many sources as possible in order to ensure a fair and equitable consideration of all potential Wall of Fame candidates.
The Selection Committee chairman and members of the Selection Committee shall be responsible for ensuring that the selection process is consistent with the highest standards of fairness, integrity and objectivity.
SELECTION PROCEDURE
The Selection Committee will review the listings of all former nominees along with any new candidates each year. Each new nomination must be supported by at least three (3) committee members in order to receive further consideration. Once nominated, a qualified nominee remains on the nomination list until the time he/she is chosen for induction by the selection committee.
Selection Committee members will vote to develop a list of nominees from each category. Further research will be conducted on each nominee to accumulate as much information as possible on achievements and qualifications.
The entire Wall of Fame Committee will then vote on the list to select up to 8 nominees per year for consideration as a member of the Wall of Fame.
Once selected, each member (or nominating party) will receive a certificate of achievement at an induction ceremony held each January. A plaque will be placed on permanent display on the Notre Dame Nike Wall of Fame listing a brief biography of the inductee and their accomplishments.
SELECTION COMMITTEE
Consists of two current NDHS varsity coaches, two former NDHS varsity coaches, two members of the Notre Dame community and the NDHS Athletic Director. The committee shall require a minimum vote of 75 percent of those present (and voting) to select the Wall of Fame inductees.
FUNDING AND SUPPORT
The Wall of Fame committee has permission to solicit annual financial support from the ND Booster Club, ND School Board and other organizations, families, businesses, alumni and members of the Notre Dame community at sporting events, church services, on social media and through other related outlets to help finance the initial creation and maintenance of the wall, purchase of plaques, framing of certificates and any other miscellaneous expenses incurred annually. Members of the committee have hereby pledged initial undisclosed dollars to create a foundation of funding for this undertaking. The annual projection is estimated to not exceed $400.
