WATERLOO — The Notre Dame High School baseball team successfully defended its championship in the Waterloo Bucks’ Triple Play Tournament on Saturday at Riverfront Stadium
Class 1A’s top-ranked Nikes beat Easton Valley 4-1 in their first game, then beat Class 1A’s fifth-ranked Wapsie Valley 12-5 in the title game.
In the win over Easton Valley, Eli Oleson and Lucas Johnson each went 2-for-4. Oleson scored a run and drove in a run, while Johnson drove in two runs. Landry Haberichter and Caden Schwenker each scored a run, while Spencer Brent had an RBI.
Brent picked up the win. In 5 1/3 innings, he allowed just two hits and no earned runs. He struck out 11. Schwenker got the save. In 2 2/3 innings, he allowed no hits and no runs, walked none and struck out two.
Against Wapsie Valley, Haberichter went 2-for-3 with a triple, scored twice and drove in one. Brent was 2-for-4 and scored twice.
Schwenker scored twice and drove in a run. Oleson was 2-for-3 with a double, scored three runs and knocked in two.
Dylan Kipp was 2-for-2 with two doubles, scored twice and drove in two runs. Logan Brent had three RBIs and Isaiah Crow scored once.
Jeremiah Crow, Haberichter and Schwenker combined on a six-hitter.
Notre Dame is now 9-0.
