West Burlington-Notre Dame softball coach David Oleson had a total of three Academic all-state players in his 18 years with the program.
Oleson nearly doubled that total this season, landing five players on the Iowa Girls Coaches Association Academic all-state team.
Only Waukee with six and Albia with five had as many or more players on the team as the Falcons.
“That is totally awesome,” Oleson said. “For me this is one of the best things as a coach. It means they take academics seriously. They want to succeed. They all have a great work ethic. They work hard in the classroom as well as on the field.”
Earning Academic all-state accolades for WB-ND are Anna Engberg and Lauren Krieger of Notre Dame and Shona Anderson, Isabella Blaufuss and Logan Kelley of West Burlington.
Also honored was Burlington senior Mady Taeger.
