Daisy Hazell

Daisy Hazell has made a name for herself the last three seasons for Notre Dame High School.

Last season, Hazell averaged 9.8 points, 5.8 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.8 steals for the Nikes, earning her second team All-SEI Super Conference South Division honors.

People are starting to realize that Hazell is pretty good on the soccer pitch, too.

Last week, Hazell, a junior forward, scored three goals in the Nikes’ 4-1 win over Central Lee and tallied one goal in a 4-0 victory over Macomb.

For the season, Hazell leads the Nikes with 10 goals to go along with two assists and 22 points. Of her 39 shots, 21 have been on goal. She converted her only penalty kick of the season in the win over Macomb.

ND-WB/Danville, after going 7-9 last season, is 4-4-2 overall, including 2-0 in the Super Conference this season under first-year coach Nick Jeffries.

The Nikes are schedule to play at 10 a.m. Saturday at Wapello.

ND-WB/Danville has a busy schedule next week. The Nikes host Mediapolis at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Tackleson Field, then host Mount Pleasant at 5 p.m. Thursday before traveling for a 5 p.m. match Friday against Davenport Central.

The Hawk Eye recently caught up with Hazell, the High School Athlete of the Week, to learn a little more about her.

My English teacher, Mrs. Miller, has been my most inspirational teacher because of how much she clearly loves what she does. She always has the biggest smile on her face. Her passion is clearly in teaching literature, and I hope to one day be as passionate about my profession as she is.
