No. 8 WB-ND softball uses big inning to take down Holy Trinity

Madalyn Knapp had a triple and three singles to lead eighth-ranked (Class 3A) West Burlington-Notre Dame to a 19-3 victory over Holy Trinity in an SEI Super conference South Division softball game at South Park in West Point Tuesday night.

The game was called after five innings via the 10-run rule. WB-ND scored 10 runs in the top of the fifth.

Knapp scored three runs and drove one home. The Falcons’ Elise Oleson and Kylee Logan both went 3-for-4. Oleson had two doubles, four RBIs and three runs scored. Logan finished with two doubles, four RBIs and a run scored.

Lauren Krieger, Lauren Summers and Riley Richards had two hits each for WB-ND. Krieger had two doubles. Richards had a double and a triple and Summers doubled.

Summers was the winning pitcher, surrendering seven hits and three walks in five innings. She struck out five.

Mary Hellige led Holy Trinity at the plate with three singles and an RBI in three trips. Haile Cain and Kelli Meierotto had two hits each, Cain homered and singled and Meierotto had two singles. Hellige was the losing pitcher.

WB-ND (22-4, 12-0 South) plays a doubleheader against Louisa-Muscatine at Letts Thursday. Holy Trinity (9-10, 5-7) begins Class 1A, Region 8 play Friday, hosting Winfield-Mount Union.
